Poem of the Day
Today my neighbor, mother of five grown children, told me a poem that her own mother told her when her kids were little.
When you have one you take it and run
When you have two you still can do
But when you have three you stay where you be.
So true, so true...

Growing, growing, growing...
This week I took Gracie to the doctor for her two month check. She weighed in at 10 pounds 4 ounces and was twenty two inches long. This puts her in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. This is, of course, only one pound heavier than Chubba was the day she was born. The doctor also noticed all the grunting, cooing and moaning that the baby does. He said, "She may be louder than the other two and talk more later in life." ....louder? .....LOUDER??? ....TALK MORE??? How is that even possible, I wondered.
I've been trying to figure out her personality and compare her to our other two babies. I still get confused when I look at her and think I'm holding Brin or Caroline. She's a perfect baby in the day and night (last night she slept eight hours straight!) but needs to be held constantly between 7 and 10 pm.
Jeff left for Baltimore this morning for six days so we''ll just be having a girl party all week! Yesterday he took Caroline skiing at the Canyons all day. He said she did great and she loves it. I think it's time for mommy to learn to ski to keep up with my kids!
Happy Sunday!

Can I keep her, Mom?
Yes, it's official... we're keeping her, which means our home has become a literal "three-ring-circus". In case you hadn't heard Jeff and I had our third daughter, Grace Sophia Burke, on December 27th, 2006. (It was actually a little more "I" than "Jeff".) You may be surprised to hear the baby was a girl, since through the pregnancy I was told the baby was a boy. But the idea of a son never sat well with me. I actually felt depressed, angry and detached. I couldn't bring myself to buy boy clothes or get a blue room ready and whenever I was asked what I was having I answered, "Well, they tell me it's a boy, but I keep hoping it will come out a girl." In the end either I got lucky, I 'willed' the baby to change from a boy to a girl, or on some level I knew that this sweet girl was ours. Ten days before she was born I had an ultrasound in which the nurse said, "Did your doctor tell you you were having a boy? Sorry, honey, but you're having a girl." I immediately burst into tears. THAT'S my baby! Not that other kid people keep talking about!
And so it goes. Ten weeks later we are happy, healthy and the other two girls adore their new addition. I am setting up this blog to keep friends and family apprised of our goings-on, and to record forever funny statements, happenings, and events in our family. Check back often, and keep us posted on all of your family's little miracles.
